Performance Workstream

The Performance workstream focuses on leveraging data to enhance decision-making, service improvements and evidence of impact. It aims to achieve accurate reporting and standardised data sets for commissioners while increasing visibility within teams. Members: Fiona Scarlett, Lauren McKeown-Tofts, Georgina King, Carleen Moore and Rebecca Barrett with support from the Improvement & Transformation Team.

Performance Wide Border

The performance workstream aims to improve demand and capacity planning to address gaps and facilitate timely access to services. It emphasises creating visual data sets for easy sharing with teams, families, and professionals. Lastly, it seeks to provide comprehensive performance data covering various service aspects such as clinical time, accessibility, travel, TOMs, and health inequalities.

Progress to date:

  • Therapy Outcome Measures (TOM's) have been agreed as the patient outcome measure tool that the service will use.
  • It has been agreed that the service will follow a Train the Trainer model to implement TOM's across the service with 20 super users undergoing training that they will then deliver outwards.
  • Documentation that outlines the What, Why and How TOM's will work in practice is under development and will be shared with the team when finalised.
  • The workstream members all now have access to the Live performance dashboard that shows an overview of SLT.
  • Work has started with the clinical systems team to start configuring lists within S1 to ensure that recording of data is consistent. It's been agreed that the initial focus will be on referrals into the service and service offered.
  • The workstream has started to look at how we can utilise Demand & Capacity modelling to support in decision-making.

Therapy Outcome Merasures (TOMs)

What is TOMs? TOM is a holistic assessment tool for evaluating the impact of interventions.

Why is using TOMs important to SLT services?

It will help us to shift focus from mere activity recording to meaningful impact assessment enabling us to identify what's effective or in need of adjustment in our service delivery.

Additionally, it will help inform decision-making, engage stakeholders and promote the value and long-term sustainability of our service.

Great news!

20 SLT staff from across the trust have completed their basic TOMs training. Next up, on July 4th and 11th, they'll be diving into their Train the Trainer module to gear up for delivering training to everyone starting from July through September.

Keep an eye out for local delivery plans or chat with your team leads if you want more details on how to access this training.
